Another problem with text:

I create a new text box and begin typing. Everything's fine--I'm in my default Times New Roman font. When I press ENTER to start a new paragraph, the text reverts to Times, which is NOT my default font. In fact, I never use it. So why does InDesign revert to Times with each new paragraph?

First: do not use Enter for paragraph, use Return instead, Second, choose other font rather than Times- it could be font naming conflict OS and Adobe. :))

The ENTER is the return key. The font I'm using is Times New Roman, and I don't have any control over the choice of font, since I'm following a company-set format. I've never had this problem at my home computer, so I still don't know why starting a new paragraph would cause the font to change.

It could be nested paragraph issue. Try: paragraph palette/options/general and check Next style it could be Same Style

You can specify character-level formatting for one or more ranges of text within a paragraph. You can also set up two or more nested styles to work together, one taking over where the previous one ends.
Nested styles are especially useful for run-in headings. For example, you can apply one character style to the first letter in a paragraph and another character style that takes effect through the first colon :)). For each nested style, you can define a character that ends the style, such as a tab character or the end of a word.

You might see see if you have any paragraph style applied to the text box, especially one with Times as the default font.

In the Paragraph styles window, click the No Paragraph Style. To make that the default click No Paragragh Style with nothing selected. Then quit indesign. Relaunch.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

The error only occurred when I was in a particular style. It was based on [No Paragraph Style] and the NEXT STYLE was based on the same thing. When I changed it to [Same Style] as someone suggested, the error was fixed.

Thank you so much!!
