New Outlook 2007 install and user issue?

I am new to Outlook and have just installed 2007 and I cannot start it. I receive the following error message which I cannot get by.

The extension configuration file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\ADINS\dumpters.e..." cannot be installed. The is an error in the syntax or format of the file. Error in configuration file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\ADDINS\dumpster.e...".

I could get forever and still not know what to look for or change to correct this issue. Can anyone PLEASE provide some advise or assistance with this?

Have you tried to remove and reinstall it yet? What other 2007 office apps do you have installed?

And "42" was in fact the correct answer!

While I am well versed in PC's I am not a M$ fan so other than Win XP Pro as my desktop (required) I have no other M$ programs installed.

I did use the control panel remove programs function to uninstall Outlook 2007 which resulted in a reboot. At that time I used Windows Explorer and determined that the specified directory tree was still there. I then right-clicked and shift-deleted this folder tree. A subsequent scan showed no other references to outlook.

I then did a completely fresh install and followed the instructions to the letter including the "finish" upon completion. Guess what ? Same error.

Thanks for your suggestion but I think its gone beyond a simple issue.

Do you in fact have a dumpster.ecf file at that location and what does it say? It's (or should be) a text file.
