I am responsible for setting up our new office network, of which we are moving into in about two months. We will have two servers running FC3, #1 for documents and our contact database, email etc. The #2 is for large file storage, we are a photography studio, as well as our image database. We usually have about 100-200 gigs of files we need to access at one time during our peak season.

There will be about 10 computers all in need of internet and use of server #1. There will only be a few computers in need of server #2. I would like to restrict access to server #2 to only certain computers, but it may be needed once in a while if someone needs to use another computer. (separate login/user on the XP computer maybe?)

I am relatively new at networking, although I have successfully set up a very similiar network at my home using FC4 and samba shares, no domain hosting.

The domain is hosted by one of the FC3 machines. How hard is it to set up samba to have a bdc if the first goes down?

I am planning on buying a 24 port gigabit switch, as well as a new router. I have done just a little research, and I found that I can share two dsl lines on one network. Are there 3 or 4? We do alot of large file transferring, and I am worried one (or maybe even two) DSL lines will not be enough. Cable internet is not available, and all other high speed lines (t1+) are not available either. I will need to use at least 20 of the ports on the switch, each server is dual ethernet plus we have a few ethernet printers, etc.

Currently I have Retrospect backing up everything from one of the XP machines on the network. This is another issue altogether which I need a little more insight on. This seems to be an -ok- way to do it, and I won't forget to take home the external hard drive and swap it for the second one...

Any and all advise is welcome, please be easy on the linux noobie...
