Hi, we are setting up a new office. with around 20 clients and one server.

We chose windows server 2003 standard edition R2 on a dell 3ghz/ 4gb.

Planning to use it as a file-server for CAD files and an application (ufida).

What is the suggested setup when the objective is to not allow local saving of files, but rather keep the files on the server and have the clients access them over the Lan? Best Practices?

Thank you!

Um, well, setup shares on the server, give your users access to it, map a drive for them, and you should be good to go.

It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!

You could also redirect the users my documents to a network share so even if they save a file to my documents it will be saved on the server.

You can also use a GPO to set the default save location in Office applications to specific folders on the network.
