New Network printer added not printing

The printer is attached to the router.

1. The add printer automatically wizard detects the printer IP but reports installation failed, ini file not complete
2. I can add the printer to the TCP / IP port manually. I can ping the printer.
3. The test page won't print.
4. Note pad won't print.

I'm afraid I'm a newbie to using the printer server that is intalled.

Grateful for any help.

 
Are you using the correct drivers, download new ones. Can you add it to a client pc and if so will it print? Also check any firewall setting try disabling it. What kind of printer is it and what verison of Windows Server are you running 64bit, 32bit or small business?
 
typ the troubleshooting section of the routers manual or manufacturer's website...

try attaching the printer to a client pc and install it with the software provided. Then attach to the router and change the port on clinet pc from lpt1 to the ip port
