I would like to install a new motherbord and processor but would like to use my old hard drive with win98 and all my data on it is this possible?

Yes, you'll probably get away with it. I always found Win95/98 was more forgiving doing this kind of thing, as opposed to NT/2000/XP.

Just be sure to have all the necessary drivers available for your motherboard etc.

It will most likly work, but if you have a way to backup the files/programs off your old hard drive. I would spend the extra time to do that and a clean install. It could save you some headaches in the future.

Definately do a full backup first. After the mainboard install, at least do a "refresh" install of 98, it's highly recomended that you reformat the "old" hd and do a clean install.

just create a copy of your Hardware profile (right click My Computer > Properties > HP tab) and name the new profile whatever.....shutdown and do the change over....when you Reboot for the first time, you'll be presented with a Boot Menu with 3 choices - choose #3 (none of the above)..and a New Profile Enum key will be created...then remove the other ones.
