I purchased a new Ausus A78NX Deluxe motherboard and AMD CPU. Installed and them installed new hard drive ... formatted and installed fresh XP Pro ... installed other apps and then things went south

Each time I try to restart I get to see the Windows XP logo for 1 second then FREEZE. I have a Radeon All In Wonder 8500dv and saw that my new board was having issues the 8500 ... i upgraded to new bious c18d1004.bin ... no luck

Given this is a fairly fresh install of XP ( I ahd it working for 5 days with no problems) and that this problem did not appear immediately after the install of an app --- I think it might be hardware related

My two issues are:

Each time i try to use systen restore it says System Restore Failed.

And the I can't get past the XP logo during startup

I can however start up in Safe Mode with Networking

Any thoughts ?

THANKS

If its hardware, its odd that you had no problems for 5 days - but also that there is no apparent cause (like new software) either.

As its a new installation, my approach would be to clean install again. If no problems with install, install apps you normally use & run it like that (no install/uninstall) for a few days. If ok, maybe just a glitch...

If you do get any problems with new install - then yes, I'd start looking at hardware (elimination approach).

Its a difficult one to diagnose.

Thanks Wolluf - I thought I may have do this - bummer

You might try a new install and make sure you use new partitions on the hard drive. Hopefully you didn't register XP yet.

well if you didnt set a restore point then its not going to restore. if it worked for 5 days and suddenly craped out i would check to see if all your fans are still spinning (especially cpu fan) also check what updates you applied also in safe mode remove nonvital componets from start up. it may be a program or driver causing the problem.
