Hi folks, new to forum, inherited responsibility for existing system and haven't done this in a while. Can anyone point to a FAQ or outline steps for switching to a new set of tapes. version 8.6 SBS with HP 24X6. I don't want to make changes to the backup jobs at this time just run as is with new tapes. Thanks

Is your tape library filled with the old tapes? If so, you need to EXPORT them first. Go to the Devices tab, expand Slots and select the tape(s) you want to remove from the library, right click on them and select EXPORT. Remove them whe directed to do so.

Select the slot(s) you want to put new tapes into, right click on them and select IMPORT. Insert new tapes into the library when directed.

Inventory the new tapes and put them in appropriate media pools (Media tab) as needed. Or leave them as Scratch tapes and let BE assign them as needed.

Thanks SQLBill, What if the old set was removed? The tapes were damaged and jamming the drive. Could I just create a new media set and select that set in job definitions? Am I missing a step?

Does the old media set still exist?

If so, just add your new tapes, inventory them, and run the jobs.

The job doesn't care about the tapes. It only cares about the media set it's supposed to use. When the job runs and 'goes' to the media set you designated, it will either find a usable tape (that you have placed in the media set) or it will go to the Scratch Media set and move a tape to the proper media set.

How to move a tape to a media set?

When you add new tapes and inventory them, they will show up as either Scratch Media or Imported Media (go to the Media Tab). You can select Scratch Media and any tapes in that set will show up in the details pane. To move one or more, select the tape(s) you want to move and drag it/them to the appropriate media set.

That's all there is to it.
