New mail notification not showing

I am using Outlook 2003. I have created sub folders below my inbox and set up some rules to check messages as the arrive from certain people to move that message to its correct folder (i.e. if I get an email from John Doe it goes to the John Doe folder).

Only thing I have noticed is that I am not getting an new mail notifications in Outlook. I don’t get the little envelope in the task manager either when I get new mail that is delivered to these sub folders. The option is checked and works when something is delivered directly to my inbox, however not to the sub folder.

I thought in previous versions of Outlook when you created a sub folder from your inbox and you got mail all the notifications worked.

Hi there.
When you create the rule, you need to tick 'Play a Sound' and/or 'Display a Desktop Alert' when you specify the other actions to take, e.g. move it to a subfolder. Outlook doesn't do this by default.

Thanks for your reply MrTBC, I do appreciate it.

I saw those tweaks they added to the rules wizard and played around with them. I guess they work as a fix for now, but I got to think Outlook from Office XP did all this stuff on its own with out having to manually set this up.

I dont have access anymore to that version of Outlook can anyone test this and verify that is the case and I am not crazy?

I am a user that likes to keep his inbox organized and if I have to manually set this up for 50 + folders, I dont like it. (Holy crap I am beginning to sound like the users I help support.. hehe)
