new laptop connector problem

Has anyone noticed that new laptops do not have com ports any more. How can we use our new laptops to connect to legacy routers through a com port connection, it there a connetor available for a USB connection to com connection or something like that?

Targus make a usb to serial converter. Seems to work fine.

We've had a lot of problems with targus and other USB/Serial converters. On Compaq laptops they don't get recognised 99% of the time and come up as HID devices.

We did fd puttng usb hubs in the way fixed the problem so I suspect the compaq's USB, but to be honest I won't allow our first line engineers to have laptops without serial.
