Hi All,
first of all sorry for the cross-posting, but felt this was the better forum.

we are creating a new job, but I would like some help with deciding an atractive job title.

The person will report to me (IT Manager - IT Services department) and will supervise the IT assistant.

The person will be responsible for running the department in my absence (which will be 2.5 days a week every week!)

So what shall we call this person?
And should we change the job title of the IT Assistant?

Both positions are to be filled with relatively young people. The 'assistant' role is occupied by a student (6 month placement). The new role will be someone who is looking for their first job after University.

All input very welcome!

How about Sorceror's Apprentice?

If the person in the position is to be your assistant, prepend your job title with "Assistant" and give it to that job.

Sorceror's Apprentice sounds realy cool! Don' think it is worth much in IT though.

Assistant does not do much justification to the job or person. And we already have an Assistant.

This person is expected to almost 'manage' the department for 2.5 days a week.

Though it may sound somewhat generic, based on what you have posted thus far, I might think that IT Services Supervisor (since they will apparently be in a partially supervisory position) would probably allow for positive image. The only drawback would be if that is giving too much to a newer/younger employee...

And considering some users, Sorcerer's Apprentice might be more than appropriate... ;-)

IT Team Leader, I realize the "Team" only consists of one person, but the title suggests a leadership roll without suggesting the person runs the whole department.

I wanna be a Sorcerer's Apprentice.

JRBeltman,
If I get to work with magic, send me the job description and I'm soooo applying for it. hehehehe

I probably need to update my job title in this forum, as TechnicalUser is probably an understatement at this point in my career. [modest]From the sounds of the job, I think I'm a bit overqualified.[/modest]

What kind of magic (or magick) are you into?
We have very specific requirements and prefer Magick as it is cheaper and more effective

Well since you asked, I'm versed in Magic, Magick, Majique, White Magic+, Black Magic-, Magic 3.14 and Virtual Magic. I've had very little exposure to Alchemy, but am thoroughly experienced in Superstition.

If you like, I'll have my familiar deliver an illusion of myself reading my resume.

Yes that would be most interesting.
Waiting for it!

DoubleD,
you are obviously no match for JPrichard!

DoubleD, I am sorry but we seem to have a better candidate
JPrichard, please demonstrate some more skills?

Getting back on topic, for one job where I was a jack of all trades (HW/software support, database programmer, network admin) my job title was Computing Officer, the placement student was a Student Computing Officer and the my manager was the Senior Computing Officer.

Hi All,
we have finally decided:

IT Team Leader

Yes I know, the team is extremely small, but since I never finished the Harry Potter school I can't call myself Sorcerer so couldn't have a Sorcerer's Apprentice :-(

Thanks all

Glad to hear you came to a decision. I do think you'd have much more interesting interviews if the position was posted as Sorcerer's Apprentice.
