I currently have a BCM50 v3.

I am trying to add a 1230 IP set to replace an older digital set. I need to use the same DN (at least I think I do to keep the same extension?).

So I changed the DN on the old digital set and am now trying to assign the DN to the 1230 but I get the message, "invalid DN." What additional steps do I need to do to "free up" the original DN? Thanks.

The DN number needs to at least appear in the BCM number range. Undo what u did, plug in new ip set, once you've configured the ip address, S1, etc the phone will connect to the BCM and will ask what DN u want the phone to be. Enter your DN and all should be good.

Go in Configuration-Telephony-Sets-Inactive Dns and change the dn of any of the Model "1140e/2004/2007/2050/221X" to the Dn you want to assign to your new IP set and once done do like Dasheen said, enter the dn when the bcm ask for it after the boot up sequence.
