I installed windows xp pro yesterday and went to plug in a USB printer only to receive an information balloon that said windows didn't recognize the attached device and couldn't continue with the install. It suggested I pull the usb cable out and plug it back in. Well ofcourse I tried many times and different usb ports but all without success.

I checked my device manager and there were no signs of errors of issues (no yellow question marks or red exclamations) however once I expanded the usb contollers, I noticed that there weren't any drivers installed for the USB root hubs, however the controllers were okay.

Anyone run into this?
We have about 4 of these workstations and I've never had this on any of the other system, so I'm curious as to why it happened, and how to fix it.

When you installed xp pro, if you formatted the drive then you will need to reinstall the chipset drivers and other drivers for the motherboard. If you dont have the disc look at the manufacturers site and if you cant find them there go to driverguide.com. Install those and then you should be able to install the printer and everything else.

See if anything here helps?
