installed a new copy of redhat 4 after I reboot there is welcome screen that comes up

welcome to linux at localhost

username
password

Don't know why I am getting this message cannot use root and the password I created in the installtion process the message is root login is not allowed.

For the "localhost", there are lots of reasons why its showing that instead of the name you assigned.

1.) did you assign a name?
2.) is the box on the network?
if so, does it have a valid IP address?

For the root pw not working, I have had that happen on ocassion. Just boot into single user mode and reset it.

Normally after the initial install when rebooted then u assign a users and monitor all that stuff don't understand why it boots to localhost. I have reinstalled it a couple of time same thing.

Answer to the ?

1. Did not prompt me to create a new user.
2. Setup for DHCP

I guess you've upgraded and not made a clean install.
Try using old super user login/password.

Regards Dan
