New Install...root pwd problems 1

I installed 11.0 fresh. After install is complete, the root passwd works on the command line but not on CDE? Other issue is hostname conflict. IP funtions work fine after install....but during boot I am getting Setting Hostname failure? If my hostname of choice is too long and is truncated down to 8 characters will this cause a problem? Are YOU Sancho?....No you are not. Is Scott Baio, Sancho?....NO, he is not!....Only.."I"....am Sancho!

CDE problems are frequently caused by a glitch in networking and the hostname is part of all the things you have to set up for networking. So, I'd say, yes, having a hostname more than 8 characters is going to cause you problems.

Soon as I changed the hostname to 8 Characters, everything came together. All is well......we have now achieved total consciousness.....So I have that going for me......... Are YOU Sancho?....No you are not. Is Scott Baio Sancho?....NO, he is not!....Only.."I"....am Sancho!
