I've got a compaq Presario 1700T laptop and the hard drive has a couple of bad sectors on it...
It also doesn't have a CD-rom, which I thought was no problem...and still think it is.
so I've got the boot floppies for Debian, and can manage to get it most of the way installed, before it starts spitting at me. The partitioning/formatting stuff in the debian install screens seems to work, but I don't think it's actually checking the drives for errors...so then later on in the install I start getting disk errors.
Is there a way to force debian to e3fsck -c the disk during the formatting process?
