New HP 2420d freezes if job sent before power-up

Hello friends,

I just installed a new LaserJet 2420d to replace a LaserJet-5P. Everything's good except one glitch.

If a print job is sent to the print queue before the printer is powered on, the entire print queue thereafter is frozen. Even if the requested job is re-sent, it just piles up in the print queue and will not print.

At that point the only thing that will get the printer to work is to reboot Windows (using XP Pro). Upon reboot, everything in the print queue prints as soon as Windows re-loads.

My old 5P caused no such problem, and simply printed anything in the print queue as soon as it was powered up.

The driver on my new 2420d is the one installed from the accompanying CD, "HP LaserJet 2420 (DOT4PAR)".

Any ideas?

TIA

I believe this is a host based printer, ie:uses computer memory to process jobs. It's just re-cycling the job when it cant find the printer. Keep it turned on!

According to the HP specification, LaserJet 2420 is NOT host-based; printer language support is quoted as:

HP PCL 6, HP PCL 5e, HP Postscript Level 3 emulation, direct PDF printing v 1.3 (with at least 128 MB of printer memory)
