Hi, All.

I totally don't know what to do anymore, please help!

Got a 6 months old Dell desktop, its hard drive overheated and Dell sent me a replacement one. Installed XP Pro on it but shortly after, the user complainted that application would freeze. She had to end the application at the Task Manager. Windows XP itself doesn't freeze.

So what can it be? The hard drive? Windows XP? or what? I am sure the hard drive isn't over heating again. There's no error in Eventvwr indicting that. Should I reinstall XP again?

Thanks.

How are you sure the hard drive isn't overheating again? Why did it overheat the first time? Can you check temperatures for CPU, mobo, and hard drive?

got enough RAM installed?
could be the horribles....
have her try to freeze the app in front of you if possible -
tell her to jot down all things running listed in task mgr when this happens.
use "process explorer" to help

and yes - how r u sure not from heat

the pc has 1 GB of RAM installed and did RAM test already, all are good.

she works odd hours so i am usually not here when she works.

i told her to check the hd temp when it freezes and it is normal. usually 39 or so. also, no warning in eventvwr about overheating.

What APP?
possibly caused by a device driver the app is trying to use/access?
ant Eventvwr messages pertaining to the "date/time" of app freeze?
did you use Process explorer yet? (there even may be a more applicable tool from the site - tools are free)
