I am adding a hard drive to a computer that currently has XP Pro which was previously upgraded fromWindows 98SE. The C: drive is FAT32.

I have connected a second hard drive to the system as a slave to the first drive. There are 2 CD's on the secondary.

The new drive shows up in CMOS and in the device manager but does not show up in Windows Explorer.

The new drive has no partitions and is not formatted. I used Fdisk (Win98 version) to view it. I would like the second drive to be NTFS if possible but Fdisk does not appear able to do this and I can't do it in Windows Explorer since I can't see it.

Thanks

You will not be able to see it in Windows Explorer until it's formatted.

And why do you want to format it with NTFS?
You will not be able to access files on it from the boot drive.

Partitioning and formatting in XP is done through Disk Management - Start, Run, diskmgmt.msc or right-click on My Computer, manage.

And the files on an NTFS formatted drive will be accessible from within Windows XP. However, they will not be accessible from a DOS boot disk without special programs such as NTFSDOS (

Freestone is right.
I was thinking about the slave drive not being accessible from Win 98 or ME formatted in FAT 32.
Sorry about the misinfo.

Great. That worked.

Appreciate your help.
