Hello and greetings to all. My name is Owen O'Neill and I currently work as a sales engineer for Datacom Systems Inc.
Datacom invented and is the primary provider of a resource sharing switch device that is frequently referred to as a "matrix switch" (a misnomer but we didn't choose the name!). It's a layer 1 device that allows a Distributed Sniffer or other remotely controlled analyzer to be shared among multiple SPAN ports, hubs or WAN links and moved from one to another by way of desktop software control.
My purpose in joining the forum is to further my knowledge of troubleshooting in general and Sniffer operation in specific. We were the largest (in dollar volume) Sniffer reseller in the US for two years running until our relationship changed recently but we still have significant interaction with Sniffer end users on a daily basis by virtue of the widespread use of our switch as a companion product to the Sniffer.
I'm not in sales (lucky me!) and won't be pushing or discussing my employer's products in any way unless a specific user question is posed but do hope that I can both learn and be of assistance when possible.
Best Regards and happy troubleshooting to all....
