I frequently see requests for book recommendations and was wondering if it would be worth the server space to create a forum for recommended reading. I can see from poking around a bit that we have a white papers section, but wouldn't it be nice if there was a directory tree structure with resources organized according to topic complete with reader reviews? Sort of a "every data management professional oughta have..." section.

What do you think?

Personally I wrote an FAQ in the SQL Server forums to address this issue. I would think the books recommended would vary widely depending on the technology or programming languages involved.

I certainly agree - technology is the driver, and the form of the recommendation ought to follow its function - to enlighten on a certain platform/technology. I'm just wondering if there is any interest in doing such a thing.

Never heard of them, but I will take a peek. Incidentally, I like this part of your signature a lot:

Who knows, maybe this post will pick up a bit of steam, and we may find ourselves witnessing the start of a new forum/resource here on Tek-Tips.

Thanks for the suggestion.

There is a rarely used "Book Review" thread type in TT. Perhaps more use of this type to post book and article reviews should be encouraged.

I heartily agree! Why learn everything the hard way and continually reinvent the wheel?
