Hi All,

We just put up an Exchage 2003 Server. We noticed that when we send an email to someone outside it goes into the Junk/SPAM folder. People using internet email like yahoo.com, will receive the email but in their spam folder. People using optonline.net will not get it because the optonline mail server treats it as spam and kills it before it reaches the mailbox. I sent it to a friend's work email address and he received it but in his Junk folder.

Can someone please help me with this issue?

Thanks in advance!

How was your email being sent before? Is this a new SMTP domain? Did you set up an SPF record for your new email server's domain?

Check that your server is not listed on any spamlists. You can do this at dnsstuff.com. Also make sure you are not an open relay and you only send email out your firewall from your server. Block port 25 for all internal addresses except the server. Also make sure you have an Anti-spam / Antivirus program for your email / Exchange server running.

If your listed, you will need to secure your network and email server first before getting delisted. Otherwise you will be immediately listed again.

Guys,

Thanks for the tips! This is a new exchange server. We just got the domain name last week. I do have Reverse DNS running and port 25 is only open for the email server.

I'm still not sure how to create the SPF file.
v=spf1 ip4:A.B.C.D a mx mx:exchange.domain.com include:ns.domain.com ~all

Should I open port 53 for my DNS server? If so, would that be safe to do as my DNS server is also my AD server?

Thanks!!

It's not reverse DNS in your org. It's reverse DNS for your public IP address. It should match your MX record, or at least your domain name. If it doesn't, have your ISP change it.

Guys,

Thanks for all your help!! Eamil has been working well since Monday after our ISP put in the reverse DNS..

Thank you,

Thanks for letting us know you got it working, that's good to know.
