A user received an email from outside the company which was interspersed with lines from an email she had previously sent internally. The old message was still in her "sent" folder. In the new message, there are a few new message lines, then some from the other message. This is repeated for 38 pages. The email client she is using is Outlook 97, I believe the sending client is Outlook Express 6. Has anyone ever run across this problem before?

I have seen corruption of the DBX files cause IE data to be brought into the file but nothing that would show up on the screen. I would search for her Inbox.DBX, Sent.DBX, files and rename them to .OLD and reopen Outlook. This will force Outlook to recreate these folders without corruption. The only problem is that any messages she was saving will not be available. If she needs those messages or this solution does not work you can always rename those .OLD files back to .DBX and everything should still be there.
