What DVD/CD writers work best with Linux? I have heard one report of a user having trouble with a Plextor on serial ATA.

Should I really look at it if it's untrusted?

I do know from experience that you can't always trust hardware vendors.

he he he... I can see the misunderstanding here...

anyway, the list in that page is for -as sleipnir stated- [red]in[/red]compatibility list.

Most standard IDE CD-ROMs, CD-RWs, DVD-ROMs and DVD-RWs are supported. Newer versions of dcdrecord/dvdrecord may also support DVD+RWs. I know that some SATA optical drives work, but I don't know how well supported they are.

Check the incompatibility list for the one your intrested in, if it's not there, google a little and see if anyone mentions having trouble with it... If you don't find anything, you *SHOULD* be alright.

SHOULD is a very over-used word in this business. There are lots of things that should work that don't.

Those were nice web sites.

Indeed, hence the "*SHOULD*", it was my way of saying that there might be some special drives that weren't found to be incompatible yet. I've never had a problem with any optical drive, my biggest problem is always the sound and graphics drivers taking a while to get out.

I have heard even the most brilliant Linux people admit to having trouble with sound drivers.
