We were using 3 digit internal exts accepting 3 digits from the carrier. We just received 100 new DID and it looks like we will have conflicts ofthe last 3 digits of some of the DID already exist as exts, I.E 718-XX-1269. New 718-xx-3269. Should, can we change the system over to 4 digit internal exts while still expecting 3 digits from the carrier ?

Yes have them send more and change your end of programming.

I should be more clear just in case...
The carrier should always send more or equal to what you need.
Example
Is OK for the carrier to send anywhere from 4 to 10 digits but you only have system set at 4.
It is NOT OK for them to send 3 while you have the system at 4 or more.

You will need to reprogram ALL existing DID's when you change the system to 4.
If the target names are not programmed with the actual number (or X digit received number) then its a good time to do so as makes it so much easier to find it later if no spread sheet is kept.
