Question: Why won't my new dell comp allow me to install win98 ???
took out xp(hate it with a passion), half way to win98 install then everything stops..
is there a way to make this work ???
i reformated the drive to fat32,,, did not help..
any tech heads that can help with this problem ???
please...........

I did 2 Dells back in October by fdisking and installing Win98SE instead of WinXP. Then I got to put WinXP back on them last month. The hospital changed from a Serial-port SCO/Unix network to a Win2000 Ethernet network, WinXP wouldn't work on the Serial. But I didn't have any problem doing it. Are you getting any error messages?

Are you using fdisk or the xp cd to format? I've seen similar situation where xp disk formatting fat32 caused problems. Used fdisk to delete / recreate the partition and 98 installed fine. Probly at least worth a try.

Don't forget to check if there is a utility partition on the HD. If you delete it you won't be able to get into the bios setup until you recreate it.
