Hello everyone,

I have just purchased a new computer that as Win 2000 Pro on it. My old PC has Win 98. What is the easiest way to move all my applications and documents from my Win98 PC to my the Win2000 Pro PC without having to install all the applications all over again on my new PC? Would appreciate the help...

Can't I just format the new PC's hdd and then clone the Win 98 PC to the New PC. Reboot the new PC and Win 98 should come up. Except most the hardware will be incorrect in the registery. But then run an upgrade to Win 2000. Isnt that possible.

yes it's possible to do this ,, specially if you use Norton Ghost to get an image for the old HDD

Windows 2000 performs notoriously badly after running the upgrade process from Win98. I think you'll be much happier in the long run keeping a fresh start and re-installing applications, to say nothing of the headaches you'll have when you try to start Win98 after putting the copied hard drive into the new machine.

This is just from personal experience; I bet dollars to donuts you spend more time tinkering to get it fixed than you would just reinstalling applications.

If you're determined to do the upgrade, why not just take the old drive and put it in the new machine? Let it boot up and fill in all the missing holes with the correct drivers as it finds the new devices.
