Hi -

I just created a new company in Great Plains V 7.5 and want to know if there is a way to import (or copy somehow) information from an existing company. I saw that upon creation of the new company, I was able to copy over security from the old company.

However, I would like to copy specifically the GL Account Structure and the account numbers into the new company. I know that the GL master table is GL00100 and I can import from my old company into the new company table; however, do I need to import other index tables and so on to work properly...or is there a better way to get the accounts set up in the new company?

Thanks,
Angela

If you created the new company with the same account structure and have set the account formats and segments up the same way, all you need to do is DTS the GL00100 from your old company to the new company and then run a checklinks on the Financial Series >Account Master. This will recreate the the GL00105 which is the Master Index Table.

Thanks.

I copied the GL00100 table from existing company. I then ran check links and running checklinks created the indexes I needed and also created the segment master that I also needed.

This worked well.

the old sql backup way works as well.

backup your company database
restore it into a new database making sure you drop everything before restore

I use this at year end of the accountants to have fun with.
