got the last components, got it all together, booted fine, put xp disc into cd rom...DISK BOOT FAILURE,INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER...what a bummer...any thoughts? im all ears, ill be back tomorrow to see what you guys have to say. thanks

is there a floppy in the floppy drive?
is the bios set to boot from cd?
is it an original cd? is it bootable?
can you boot from a standard boot floppy, cd to the cdrom?
ide cables - master slave settings?
just brainstorming here...

Good advice BIS.
Sounds like it is not reading that the CD is bootable or at all. Of course the hard drive is not a valid systems disk its brand new.

The only time I came across that message was when my hard drive failed.

This is a generic message from the bios when it can not find anything to boot off of, or if there is a no boot disc in the floppy drive and that is set as the first boot device.
That is why BIS made all those suggestions.
1. Make sure there is not a floppy in the drive.
2. Make sure the CD is in the boot selections in the BIOS
I set mine to: floppy then CD then Hard drive.
3. Is the CD a Microsoft CD or a copy that is not really bootable?
4. Can you boot with a floppy disk then access the cd from there to run the install?
5. When the PC starts up, does the bios see the CD drive?
