I have read the tips on how to configure CDR etc..
But one thing Im not sure on is what cable to use.

The system is an 11C.

In most of the 11C's I have seen a octupus type connection coming out under the 1st cabinet cant remember if they are 25pin or 9pin.

If I am plugging a PC using dyperterm(serial ) do I need a Null modem cable for CDR TTY?
Also if nortel was to supply the cable what would be the model number?
The SSC card provides the 3/4 connections and when do you need an SDI card? when you have run out of SSC ports I guess? I have read threads relating to DTE/DCE too.. do you need to set these on the SSC card for your TTY/CDR ports

sorry about all the questions.
Thanks.

dce, meaning the provider of the clock, (not exactly). is a good rule of thunb, so i use dce to a modem and dte to a pc.. if both ends match, you need a null.. if you have a second cab, then plug the same octupus type cable into that cab and use it for more tty's.. i don't have the part number here at the house but a standard db 9 to dn 25, non nortel or notel works.. in ld 37,, tty x will send a test to that tty... for cdr user cty.. turn it on in the cdb, turn it on in the routes your wanting to watch.. i usually but a normal maint port, test that then change it to cdr, just easy to hit a return and know if it's working.. it's not rocket science, i make the connection, then if it's does not talk, try it with a null.. have a good weekend.. btw internal data requires a cls change for each phone.. plus int yes in in cdr data, ld 15.. ld 21 prt cdr

how can I tell if I need a Null modem cable or not? I presume the PABX is provding the clocking. so I wont need a null modem would I?

its going from TTY to PC 9 pin serial for CDR.

Thanks.

IT'S NOT A NUL MODEM CABLE, THE CABLE OFF THE PADDLE BOARDS ARE A INVENTION OF NORTEL

If you have an Option 11C there will be a "octopus" cable that has 3 TTY ports labelled 0 to 2 on them. They are 25 pin connectors. If you have any extra cabinets you will then get another TTY port with every extra cabinet - again 25 pin conector. You normally do not require a Null modem between PABX TTY port and CDR equipment but it can vary depending on whether the orts are configured for DCE or DTE. You should be able to by a 25 pin to 9 pin cable/adapter from any communications shop as very common. You can test using a modem cable if that helps as has 25 to 9 pin etc. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys,

Its a Null, because the onsite guy uses a Null for pabx access, so I guess that answers my question.

Thanks.
