Hi everyone... I am a first time user and have a few questions. I have a computer (Intel PIII 500 w/128 megs of ram) and recently my original 45x cd-rom drive stopped working... It was just a cheap genetic drive so I replaced it with a Samsung 40x but thats where the trouble starts... When I plug in the CD-ROM the whole computer just freezes... Stops responding... I unplugged the drive, got into windows, installed the drivers and then tryed again... no luck, the computer still freezes everytime i hook it up. I have tryed everything... no luck. So Basically, I have a new CD-ROM drive... the drivers... i can get into windows no problem, its just like normal only no cd-rom capabilities and everytime i hook the new drive up the computer instantly freezes... Please help.. I really appreciate it. Thanks very much!

Is the cd-rom IDE of SCSI?

I believe that if it is IDE try to have no other drives hanging off of the cable. Make sure jumper settings are set correctly on the CD rom drive, etc......

good luck
