New But enthusiastic LINUX User needs help

Hi all,
I'm making the cross form windows to Linux and am having a tough time trying to get SAMBA working. I am using RedHat 8.0 server installation. Everywhere i look someone is saying something diferent about SAMBA setup. All i want to do at thi spoint is access the SAMBA server from WinNT and Win2K. The windows machines sit in a domain.

Does anyone have info (simple) on this setup. Also i can't get SWAT to work. Getting connection refused on local host.
