I am being forced to implement BES in my organization. I use Exchange 2000, sp3.
Blackberry support has basically been useless, so can anyone tell me if I can just do an 'out of the box' installation of BES and be done with it or do I need to create a bunch of policies, filters, etc. I only have 30 user licenses, so it is not a big deployement.
The setup we chose was to install the BB Router server in a DMZ.
I really don't have time for this, but politics rule, you know.

Thanks!

the installation itself does not require you to create policies or apply filters. You will have to create a blackberry service account and give it read access to all mailboxes in your exchange organization. Other than that, as long as communication between your servers is good, and between the dmz/outside world as well, there's not much else you need to worry about. Of course, those are famous last words when working with any MS product :)

Thanks for the info!

I really just want to set this thing up and forget about it...nothing fancy.

FWIW, I did a 4.0 BES install at my organisation connected to Exchange 2003 and ACT! 9.0 last Oct.

Having never seen it before (so I went slow), it took 4 hours to get it set up and 15 devices connected.

Since then I've spent about another day going through the options to see if there were other options or functions I should look at... only really found some more efficient ways to roll-out our ACT! data.

BTW: My BES is inside the LAN, and I'd have a look at this before putting it in the DMZ -
Also this... while an old ver of BES, a search of their kb might give a vurrent one if it's changed -
