I read that Antec is upgrading and introducing new models, with at least some available this quarter. Improved cooling/ducting are apparently in the mix.
I was about to start buying and building - does anyone have info (or an opinion <S>) re: whether you'd wait, or just go ahead?

Thx
Mikl

Since you are building the computer for you the question is "what do you want from this computer?

no matter what or when you buy, there's always going to be something better that comes out in the next quarter, or 20% cheaper the next month.

thx, people. Your point, wooglin, is exactly what the issue comes down to - there's always some advance coming. I wondered if this was worth waiting for - as you suggest, probably not, or i'll keep holding off for the next right-around-the-corner advance and never jump into the build!

As for what i want from the computer, a case that runs cooler and quieter is an advantage for any future upgrade, no matter what i put in it. I just wondered if you knew anything about how improved the new cases are going to be.

It's my 1st build and i'm a little nervous... Point is, i'll go ahead and get going.

Thx again,
Mikl

For what its worth - although I know nothing about Antec Cases - I have built several PC's using "common or garden " cases but , for the latest build , I used a "Thermaltake Tsunami Dream" case and will certainly not be going back to any "common or garden " ones after this !

This case is excellently designed - plenty of room but , more importantly , it can come apart in a way which makes installing drives so much easier - you no longer need to have wrists which can turn through 180 degrees to install the hardware !! it also comes with two 120 mm cooling case fans which are very silent runners - I heartily recommend it !

Antec cases a fairly well built.

I have a SLK3700AMB and I like the 12CM Exhaust Fan. Might need better cooling for a hot P4. I wish if they were going to put a filter on cases, that it would be easier to clean. I like my dryer. You just slide out the lint screen and clean it.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

You may want to focus more on the CPU than the case. AMD's Athlon 64 has a feature called Cool & Quiet (read about it at Make sure you grab a mobo that supports it and gets good ratings on CPU/System fan control.

I recently bought a cheap basic 400W Rosewill case off for a custom build for a customer. The Athlon XP 3200+ that I used only maxes out at 52°C when the system is stressed. Pretty cool for an average case.

Just a thought...

Thx all, appreciate your sharing your experience. I'm figuring on an Athlon 64 3000+ or 3200+, and probably an Asus mobo although i haven't ruled out MSI or Abit. (Gigabyte too pricey for me.)
Someone had mentioned the LianLi case - glad to have Thermaltake to consider, and ceh4702's experience with Antec.
Seems like nobody's heard about the redesign/upgraded Antec's -- bet their marketing people wish the word were out a LITTLE more than it apparently is! <S>

Thx
Mikl

I must admit to being very pleased with my LianLi V1000 case.
Love it or hate it, there is no agument that this case is engineering perfection (well very close), it just doesn't get any better as far as build quality goes.
The looks maybe a little bland for a pure gaming enthusiast but for anyone who appreciates design and unrivalled quality look no further.
Lack of a reset button hasn't proved a problem, the open grille type contruction does lead to a low but not annoying woosh of air from the front 120mm fan.
BUT THE QUALITY!!! solid alluminium castors, even the start button is metal and the side panel sliding locking mechanism's are just great! even the pop down bay covers open and close like the doors of a Rolls Royce.

Antec cases (and power supplies) are also top notch, either way it's a win win situation.

My 2¢-worth... It really depends what you aim to achieve. I have built many PCs: my latest is based on a ShuttleX. I went for that because it is tiny, very quiet, smart and unobtrusive. It is a tool I use at home and don't want to lose too much space (the Shuttle sits nicely on a bookshelf).

If your building for the experience and fun and don't want a top performance, over-clocked computer, then certainly a current Antec case will suffice - as will other cases from reputable manufacturers.

If you go to you will find several reviews of PC cases.

Well, the question is how much more cooling do you need over what's currently available in the market?

Factors like large number of hard drives, overclocking, high-end video card, etc, make a difference in making the right choice. A Lian-Li case may sound and look impressive, but for a basic system might be overkill. And just like the new Antec cases that you've heard about, are they really necessary for the type of system you're building?

But hey, if you're not on a budget, then why the hell not!

The question of How much more cooling do i need (that i might get from new Antec) than i can get right now from lots of manuf'rs tells me to just move ahead.

In part i asked b/c i've learned from you guys that a case can be a limiting factor on system upgrading/expansion, so thank you all for your experience and opinions.
