hi my pc spec is:
2000 Athlon XP
512 ddr ram
60gb hd maxtor
64mb nvida geforce 4
cd-rw
dvd rom 16x
power supply 300w

it all works fine super fine..but recenely i installed a maxtor 200GB into 100GB partions

from then it started..random crashes..even before windows loaded and sometimes after windows had loaded

exmaple crashes during first 5 mins or after 50 mins..

im not sure why this is happining.

any ideas

Uninstall the new HD, and see if the crashing stops. This assumes that the old HD is still installed and bootable.

If the crashing stops, then reinstall the new HD making sure all connections are correct and secure.

If the connections are ok and the crashing reappears, then connect a different power lead to the new HD.

If no luck, then install a different known working IDE cable.

If still no luck, then either the new HD may be defective, or the power supply may not have sufficient capacity to run both HD's(assuming you did not uninstall the old HD).

Possibly stupid question, you have 3 other IDE devices, 60gb hd maxtor, cd-rw, dvd rom 16x. Have you checked the jumpers on the new drive to make sure they don't conflict?
