I just installed a new Abit VT7 motherboard and none of the on board usb ports are working.

There are no usb ports/hubs showing up in my hardware list.

I am running Win XP Pro sp2, so I would have thought the drivers would have loaded.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Dis-connect all case and extra USB cables/ports. Reboot. Check Device Manager > hardware > bottom of list should list all USB ports. Post back with what you find.

Have the front USB headers been wired correctly? I find this the most common cause and unfortunately certain configurations will burn out components.

Thanks for your responses.

I haven't even attempted to connect the front usb headers yet. It looked like something that could easily be done incorrectly so I figured there were enough on the MB to start with.

Unfortunately, the MB ports aren't being recognized at all.

First off, you are already in good hands here, so i am only going to sugggest you check the bios. You may find a setting in the bios to enable your usb.

One other thing, you said just installed a new mobo. Did you format a hard drive and do a completely fresh install of win xp pro with sp2, or did you use a hard drive with an old, existing install of win xp pro?
