New 3DES activation key

I would like to upgrade to 3DES. I have the needed activation key, but I don't know how to upgrade.
I know that I should be prompted for inserting a new activation key, but when???
what do I have to do to be prompted for the new key?

If you have 6.0 or higher (I think it came in 6.0) you can use the "activation-key" command in config mode.

I run version 6.1 but I couldn't find the command you mentioned.

HI.

I think that the "activation-key" commands is supported only in version 6.2 and above.

For older pix versions, you will need to reinstall the pix OS image using TFTP, and then at the end of the process you'll have an option to enter the new activation key.

If you're planning an upgrade to a newer pix OS version, then you can do it in the same phase.
However it only takes a few minutes of downtime, so you don't have to wait for a new OS version.
