I feel stupid asking this question; could someone please explain the fundamentals of workgroups in ME. I am an expert in Active Directory structure in 2000 and and until today, never had to work with "Workgroups".

Obviously there is no centralized "user database" with workgroups unlike AD. How does file-sharing/printing authentication work from one computer to the next.

I am trying to print on another machine in the same workgroup, but it is not letting me see the other printer.

do I need to log into the accessing machine with the same username/password that is in the box w/ the printer?

Thanks in advance

Open Network properties in Control Panel.
Click Client for NetWare Networks, and then click Properties.
In the Preferred server box, type the name of the server.

Open Network properties in Control Panel.
Click the Access Control tab, and then click User-level access control.
In the Obtain list of users and groups from box, type the name of the computer or network domain where the list of names is stored.
For example, if the name list is stored on a computer or network domain called Marketing, you would type:

marketing

Is the printer shared? Can you see the other machine in My Network Places? Logon username/passwords don't matter in this environment.

When you say its not letting you see printer - is this using add printer - network printer?

If the printer is shared, you should be able to add a printer (Network Printer) and browse for it on the network. If that doesn't work you can always do "net use ltp*" command from cmd prompt and capture the port.
