I have a company-owned laptop with XP Pro that I am trying to network through a router to a desktop PC running XP home. Both computers are connected to the Internet through the router, but when I try to view the XP Home machine over the network through the XP pro machine, I get the following error:

\\(Computername) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found

Both computers are in the same workgroup- any suggestions?

1. Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing installed on both machines
2. Netbios over TCP/IP enabled, both machines
3. Something, anything, shared on both machines
4. Username/passwords entered for all users, both machines
5. A true logon occurs on both machines with username and password. Never by hitting Escape or Cancel. It might be wise to disable the default Group Policy on the Pro machine to restrict the use of blank passwords to the local console only.

You should see at least your own computer in Network Places, both machines, to begin with. If you View, Refresh you should see after a few minutes both machines.

I had this problem as well and had to install netbui from the CD. on the cd there are detailed instructions on how to install it under addons I think. if this is what you chose to do.
