Networking with a scanner & printer to mimic a copier

I have a great printer, and a lousy scanner, and no photocopier. Rather than purchasing a photocopier (for limited use), I'd like to see if I could purchase a good scanner, hook it into the network, and use the scanner & printer together like a photocopier.

Does anyone know of scanners that hook directly into a network? Is there a way to hook a USB scanner into the network?

Any other ideas or solutions that would help accomplish this?
