One of our sales engineers is trying to configure an MCDN CDP network with Centralized VM between a BCM and a CICS and was wondering if it would work with PSTN trunks. I guess he is trying to avoid the cost for the VoIP trunks and the Gateway.

I have never tried this path, as I've always used VoIP trunking. My Nortel Networking books indicate it won't work across the PSTN, though we use PSTN as fallback.

Has anyone tried to set up a CDP network across PSTN?

Sure your PSTN can be used for fallback, but there will be no centralized vmail or CDP over it.

The only way you could do it is the set up your extensions as destination codes that strip off the extension number and insert the person's full pstn 10 digit DID.

not very practical, especially if you don't have did's at the far end

Thanks, you reinforced what I figured...
