Hi All
Recently replaced 10 pcs on a peer to peer network now running xp home. everything works fine on 8 pcs but 2 cant access the network "you do not have permission to access the workgroup or the workgroup is unavailable...". However, both receive dhcp settings from the router and have no problem access intenet, etc. If i start/run/ \\computer name i CAN access a pc on the network. I have tries various steps in solving the issues:
1 - service pack 2 and other updates
2 - unistall & reinstall LAN card driver (Broadcom 40/400)
3 - Ran network wizard
4 - disabled windows firewall
5 - disabled all start items in Admin

My next step is to check all pcs connected to ensure they are all running the same protocols but this will be a timely experiece and i rekon at this stage ive overlooked something simple...

Thanks in advance

Dave

This error is due to not having Netbios over TCP/IP selected. Look at the property sheet for the LAN connection, TCP/IP Properties, Advanced, WINS tab, 'Enable Netbios over TCP/IP.'

You have to give some time for this change to propogate through the network, although if Service Pack 2 is installed on all computers this usually takes less than two minutes.

Tnx for that. The settings are set to default, ie use dhcp or enable if not set. Will try.

thanks again
