hiya,
i've recently had the bt 500+ network broadband system installed in my small company. i have 8 computers in the office and a xerox network printer.
i have been given a router which has its own ip address and subnet.
81.150.50.6
255.255.255.248
i have also been allocated 5 fix ip addresses which run from:
81.150.50.1 - 81.150.50.5
255.255.255.248
now i've connected 5 computers to the subnet but i have 3 computers left in the office and the xerox network printer which i need to attach to the network. the bt router will not allow me to add any other ip's to the x.x.x.248 subnet.
i have managed to both ping and print from the printer using my windows 2000 machine by adding a 2nd ip/subnet
172.x.x.x
255.255.255.0
to the advanced options of the tcp-ip settings. i can also ping one of the other computers which also sits on (my old) the same subnet ie:255.255.255.0.
but i cant see any of the 3 computers on this subnet in neighbourhood networking to access the files on them. i've rung bt and they basically told me that i'd need to buy more ip addresses for the router from them - charming eh!?
i'm sure theres a way around this - and i appreciate any help,
regards,
