We don't know much about networking computers but we're hoping one of you can help us.
We have broadband internet connected to a router, one PC is working through the router, but we also want to connect another PC and a mac os 9.1.
Is there any particular settings that we need on our computers for the networking to work, we're a bit lost at the moment and stuck!
Is it the case that we have to register all computers with the internet provider, or should we be able to gain access through the router?

for internet acess, it should be painless, all the computers can use DHCP from the router and need little configuration. Most router configure with a web browser, so wither a mac or a PC can be used. the ISP should not need to know your computers

File and printer shareing between macs and PCs is toughter, but internet access should be easy.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

There are two issues here...

1) if you simply want the computers to access the internet, you need to connect each to the router and set the IP address to the DHCP setting so that the router will issue an IP address automatically. There is no need to ask your ISP to add computers unless the router is managed by them.

2) if you need to network the computers so that they see each other on your local network, do step 1 first and then read the FAQ on PC/Mac filesharing.

Wow - if I only understood my own posts. Let me re-write some of my nonsense...

...you need to connect each computer to the router and set the computers' IP addresses (in the internet config settings) to the 'DHCP' setting. Your router will then magically issue an IP address to each computer.
