My office has a Novell Network. I have Windows XP (HOME) on my laptop and can not see any other machines (except XP, WIndows 2000 or NT machines). I can not see my own desk top which is a windows 98 machine.

How can I view or at least find other machines?

you can to novell.com download the login software is it..

Just curious why you would need to "see" the other workstations if you are on a Novell network. Seems that doing some sort of peer to peer defeats the whole purpose in running the NOS.

The reason for needing to see other machines to we share files over the network. For example, I have a desktop machine that I want to be able to see so I can share files instead of having to do some sort of VPN or serial link.

This is what your Novell network is there for....putting resources in a common location so they can be shared.

Yes Dave, that is true. That is also why I'm trying to see the other computers from my XP machine so I can share them. I understand the purpose of the Novell. Thus the reason for my post to begin with. As it turns out, I found a Novell for XP client that I installed which allowed me to view the Novell network, but we also have a Client for Microsoft layer issue where the problem is occurring. It is apparently an issue others with XP are having as I've found much more information since my request.

Maybe I'm just stupid but I still don't understand the reason for wanting to share with other computers when you have a server already in place.

Instead of sharing files/apps between workstations these files/apps should be on the server. The server is there for this very reason. It should have fault tolerance built into it in the way of RAID or disk mirroring. It also should have some sort of backup run on it. Most workstations have neither of these.

I also assume that your workstations have internet access. By running netbeui your workstations are also creating a major security hole.

I may be way off here and I'm not trying to slam you but it sounds like you are trying to do this without your network admin's knowledge. First, I doubt a serious business would deploy XP Home edition on its laptops. But if they did, I doubt that they would deploy it without having the Netware client installed so you could authenticate to the network to do your job in the first place.
