Hello there, I have been using wired networking between my main computer and the family one for many years now. In addition to this, my main computer also has an additional ethernet card from which I run another cable to either my other pc or to my laptop, I chop and change it quite regularly. Recently I decided to bit the bullet and buy 2 Wireless network cards for my main PC and my other PC (my laptop already has it built in) thus leaving only a wired connection between my main pc and my family one.

All was going well except that now for some reason, my family pc can not access the internet at all, although it says it is still connected to the high speed Lan though the Speedtouch connection (My broadband provider).

All the other client PC's can access the internet, including the wireless ones which are now working fine.

I have gone through all the settings on the family pc, ensuring that everything is set up correctly, adding the gateway of 192.68.0.1 and the subnet mas of 255.255.255.0
I am totally stuck...I can not think of anything else that I can do because I seem to have exhasusted all things.

I have tried using a dial up connection on the Family computer to AOL which DOES CONNECT HOWEVER......for some reason...the internet can STILL NOT be accessed, ie...internet explorer will not work, and AOLS own software will not display any web pages, although it will allow me to check my email.....HELP ME PLEAASE

I AM TOTALLY STUCK AND THE REST OF MY FMAILY ARE PRETTY UNHAPPY ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE PC FOR EMAILS....I NEED SOME IDEAS PLEASE...MANY THANKS

How is your system configured? Broadband router to wireless router and then you desktop into the back of the wireless router? Have you tried taking the broadband router directly into your desktop and accessing the internet? And what operating system are all the computers using?

nope, I dont have a router. The Broadband plugs straight in to my Work PC running Windows XP Media Center via USB. That is the connected to my family PC via wired network cable which is running XP Home (This is the one that has stopped working) then I have another wired network connection that I use to connect to my other PC and then I have a wireless connection from my work PC that connects my laptop. Now worries on any of the others, just on the family one for some reason. Although when I open network connections on the family PC it says that the High Speed Lan is connected using the shared internet connection from the Work PC.....however, no matter what I try I can not access the internet. I can still access the shared folder though and do all other network things...

Your broadband must come in thru a router and then split out using USB to your PC. Call your ISP and have them walk you thru pinging them. If you can't ping them, then the broadband router may have gone bad.

Nope, sussed the solution out in the end...itt was actually because I had recently updated my version of Norton Internet Security 2005. The actual problem lay in the fact that the updated program had for some reason blocked port 80 thus rendering the internet connection on my family pc redundant. I had to go through the settings on the NIC 2005 and delete port 80 from the blocked list. So there we go. As I said before, I have no router on the PC. It just goes straight in to my work PC via USB and then I shared the internet connection through my network connections to other PC's. Thought I would post the answer just incase any others ever get stuck with this same problem. :)
