We are going to be putting in VOIP Gateway's on the CICS and MICS. Has anyone been successful in using 3 digit DN's?
Nortel recommends 4 digit. Any pitfalls that I need to know about?

Thanks

Are you going to use CDP? If there is only going to be these 3 sites and you want 3 digits then you could do it. Just remember with CDP the 1st digit to each site has to be unique so you will be changing the DN's. That is one reason they recommend 4 digits is because it is an easier set up.

Here is a bottom line of what we need to do. We need each of the 3 sites to be able to call each other over the IP trunks. We also need them to be able to transfer calls to each other. We have a customer that is networked with a 400 and 2 50's and it works great. This is our first experience with the VOIP Gateway. My plan is to set up routing at each location to be able to dial extensions at all 3 sites. Is the functionality the same with using the VOIP Gateway as networking a 400 and 2 50's?

The VOIP gateway connects to the MICS and CICS via analog trunk ports so make sure you have room on those systems. The trunk ports will be set to auto answer:Y DISA:N. You also need a services cartridge for DTMF receivers on both of those systems. If not, you won't be able to build target lines that are mapped to the individual DNs. The VOIP gateways work well....Watch out for G.729 codec... The version on the voip gateway didn't match the version on the BCM400 back in the 3.5 days. Maybe that is fixed. If it doesn't work, make sure to try G.711 as well.

Good Luck

You can actually get away without the services card on the CICS, with a few programming tricks!

I don't think I would want to take a chance.

I has nothing to do with taking a chance you have to enable auto answer and let the phone ring at a least a ring or two in order to get the caller id from the gateway (even with the services card), and the CICS cabinet will allow for routing to each of the extensions without requiring the services card. I've tried it both ways just last week. Let me know if you're already in testing mode across VPN's as I'm experiencing audio problems across the gateways on the VPNs.

When you have it set to auto answer, where is it ringing?
