We have a customer that had two Marling Magix, I said had, because one just died a few minutes ago, that would like to know if we can link both of them over their current infrastructure. According to tech, when they want to dial out on the other Magix they dial 8 then 9 and I think he said that to reach an extension on the other side they simply dial the extension and it rings.
Is this something that you can accomplish by following Tech Tip 134 and using the Universal PRI to link to the T1 on the Magix? I am guessing you need to license all the channels as a regular PRI? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I found more information, it seems you configure the PRI as a Sb Type T1 set to (1->24) and then each channel as a type E&M Tie, then you basically manage it as a regular line with ICR and ARS entries to handle inbound and outbound traffic, seems pretty straight forward to me. Does anyone know if I am going to have to worry about how the Magix is programmed or I can take care and handle everything from the IPO side?

You'll be able to do this just fine. Exact details depend on exact setup. But with shortcodes and ARS, the IPO will fit like a glove. And will cause customer to want to swap other sites to IPO, because you can make it so easy for the users.

mforrence, thanks, that is great news to hear. ATAC suggested I try the setup on a lab, only problem with that is that I need one IP Office with a PRI fully licensed that as a coincidence I do have less the power supply, an old Magix PBX that works and a T1 link.

You can do this with IPO licensed for only 8 channels - no need for all 24. Just make Magix match. WELL worth the effort to configure in lab first. IPO part is easy, Magix end will take a bit of work. Just remember, in lab, T1 transmit from one device goes to receive on other device.

I thought you could use merlin network or merlin pbx depending on if merlin is co or cpe.
You lose routing tables in merlin so incoming will match extension.
For IPO co or cpe would be set opposite of merlin.

yep.

My biggest problem is that the Magix is in a different country, I do not know anything about Magix and I do not have control of the Magix. Right now I am just waiting to see if the customer is going to place the order with us to replace the PBX here in the US or not. I was trying to gather enough information to feel better telling the customer that we could handle the project. Since I found the PBX with the dual PRI and since their US PBX is down I told the customer if we could go onsite to try and get the link operational and setup that unit as a temporary PBX while we get approval for the new one, he has yet to accept my proposal.

Actually, this might be easier than you think. If Magix is already operational, simply connect IPO and configure T1 for E&M (no CO/CPE changes required, as this is in-band not PRI). Hook it up and watch Monitor - see what Magix is sending, then route appropriately. You may need someone at Magix to simply generate test calls. Now dead Magix at your end was probably only sending extension numbers or lead digit + extension number. You may be able to interpret based on what far end Magix sends you.

That makes sense, customer told me that to dial out of the PRI on the other side they first hit 8 and then 9 then they dial the number extensions I was told was dialing direct but I am not sure about that. I looked at a document that explains it very clearly and it look like a very simple thing to do, I do appreciate the help and the support.
