Hi,

Perhaps you could help me,

I have a broadband modem connection to my pc via 10/100 port, works great. but I want to link up my laptop to share the connection.

The Modem appears to link itself with the MAC address of the PC though,

I deleted the account from the modem setup and reinstalled on the laptop, worked fine..

But I want both the PC and Laptop to share the broadband, am i going to have to but something else?

I would really appreciate some help...thanks

JAMES

You haven't specified which operating system you are using so I'll assume windows.

You could use connection sharing but the best solution would probably be a broadband router. Most routers can "spoof" MAC addresses; you could plug both the laptop and machine into this for network/internet access.

I see, thats most helpful, so if i bought a broadband router the setup of it could use its own MAC address?

then I could just set up a home network?

Thankyou for such a quick reply...

Just one more question if I may then,

Would I have to install and configure the router first and then put the broadband connection in the router?

Would I be able to configure mu own IP address internally? or would they default to 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 e.t.c

Thanks

JAMES

You can turn DHCP off and specify addresses, yes.

While I have never personally connected an ethernet modem to a router before (USB or all-in-one units before), I would connect and configure the router before attaching the modem.

Marvelous,

Many Thanks
