Just got a T1 connection installed; service provider wants extra $$$ to configure NAT on the 1700 unit. Can I interface a basic Linksys cable/DSL router between the 1700 and my switch to perform NAT/firewall so that my internal network server is not exposed to the Internet. Alternatively any suggestions on a firewall would be appreciated. I am a newbie with CISCO routers.

Sure. You should be getting at least a few public addresses with your T1. Just plug the Linksys, Cisco, whatever into the ISP's router ethernet port via crossover (or through a hub/switch), configure NAT on your own device, and you're set.

We own all the equipment, and do it this way anyway:

ISP---Router---Firewall (NAT)---Router----Users
